Introductions of the scenic spots

The Bund

The Bund with a length of 1.5 kilometers is located in the Huangpu District which is downtown Shanghai. On the east of this area, you won't miss the mother river of Shanghai----Huangpu River; and on the west of it, you will see the 1930s resplendence of Shanghai proved by a row of buildings of variegated western architectures titled as ‘the museum of international architecture', in detail, 52 buildings in different styles: Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque, Chinese and Western combined. Therefore, the Bund is an influential attraction, a landmark and one of most famous destinations worth traveling in Shanghai.

Huangpu River Cruise

The Huangpu River (Huangpu Jiang) is the city's shipping artery both to the East China Sea and to the mouth of the Yangzi River, which the Huangpu joins 29km (18 miles) north of downtown Shanghai. It has also become a demarcating line between two Shanghais, east and west, past and future. On its western shore, the colonial landmarks of the Bund serve as a reminder of Shanghai's 19th-century struggle to reclaim a waterfront from the bogs of this river; on the eastern shore, the steel and glass skyscrapers of the Pudong New Area point to a burgeoning financial empire of the future. The Huangpu's wharves are the most fascinating in China. The port handles the cargo coming out of the interior from Nanjing, Wuhan, and other Yangzi River ports, including Chongqing, 2,415km (1,500 miles) deep into Sichuan Province. A ship ride on the Huangpu River is highly recommended: Not only does it provide unrivalled postcard views of Shanghai past and future, but it'll also afford you a closer look at this dynamic waterway that makes Shanghai flow.

Zhujiajiao ancient town

Located in a suburb of Shanghai city, Zhujiajiao is an ancient water town well-known throughout the country, with a history of more than 1700 years. Covering an area of 47 square kilometers, the little fan-shaped town glimmers amongst the landscape of lakes and mountains.

Endowed with another elegant name, 'Pearl Stream', the little town is the best-preserved among the four ancient towns in Shanghai. Unique old bridges across bubbling streams, small rivers are shaded by willow trees, and houses with courtyards attached all transport people who have been living amidst the hustle and bustle of the modern big city to a brand-new world full of antiquity, leisure and tranquility.

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is located in Pudong Park in Lujiazui, Shanghai. The tower, surrounded by the Yangpu Bridge in the northeast and the Nanpu Bridge in the southwest, creates a picture of 'twin dragons playing with pearls'. The entire scene is a photographic jewel that excites the imagination and attracts thousands of visitors year-round. This 468 meters high (1,536 feet) tower is the world's fourth highest TV and radio. However, even more alluring than its height is the tower's unique architectural design that makes the Oriental Pearl TV Tower one of the most attractive places anywhere. The base of the tower is supported by three seven-meter wide slanting stanchions. Surrounding the eleven steel spheres that are 'strung' vertically through the center of the tower are three nine-meter wide columns. There are three large spheres including the top sphere, known as the space module. Then there are five smaller spheres and three decorative spheres on the tower base. The entire structure rests on rich green grassland and gives the appearance of pearls shining on a jade plate.

The Old City God's Temple

The Old City God's Temple (Laochenghuangmiao) is a major yet relatively inactive, Taoist temple in Shanghai. It is located in the area south of Yan'an Road on the Fangbang Zhong Road. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhangshouyue, the head of Shanghai County, dedicated a temple to the local city god. Since then, the City God's Temple has been destroyed several times and the current temple was built in 1926. During the the war of resistance against Japanese invasion during World War II, local merchants built a new City God's Temple in the Foreign Concession (between Lianyun Road and West Jinling Road). That area is now a high-rise residence building. The "former" temple is known as the Old City God's Temple. The Old City God's Temple and the enclose Yuyuan are not only famous tourist sites but also popular shopping attractions. There are boutiques, shops selling local specialties, as well as large jewelry stores, department stores and fabulous local snack restaurants to be found here.

Shanghai World Financial Center

Shanghai World Financial Center is a super high skyscraper in the city as well as the highest in the mainland China with a height of 492 meters. It is a multifunctional office-based building combining offices, commerce, business, conferences, hotels, exhibitions and sightseeing.
